Yes — the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 expressly permits foreign producer associations and authorities to register their GI in India. Examples already registered include Champagne, Cognac, Scotch Whisky, Napa Valley wines, Prosciutto di Parma and Roquefort.
Any association of producers, organization or authority established by law representing the interests of the producers of the relevant goods in the country of origin.
Form GI-1, applicant's standing documents, proof of protection in country of origin, statement of case explaining geographic link, class and goods specification, map of the region, and POA.
10 years from registration, renewable indefinitely in 10-year periods.
Once registered, action lies against misuse, falsification and passing-off. Customs recordal is also available to block infringing imports at Indian ports.
